In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Tatum Cox; his sister, Margie Varner and brother, Robert Cox.

Survivors include his brothers-in-law, Ed Varner, William Tatum (Karen); his sisters-in-law, Brenda Bearden and Nancy Law, (Charles); his nieces and nephews, Louie Varner(Miki) and Nathan Varner (Beth), Leigh Lockwood, (Alan Harris); Brett Davis (Amanda), Brian Bearden (Lisa), Payson Hammonds (Julie) and Calen Casey; along with numerous great-nieces and nephews and all the current and former employees of Young Brothers Pharmacy; and his long standing friend, C.B. Siniard.
