Obituary for Dean Cox

Dean Cox
Mr. Carl “Dean” Cox, age 80, of Cartersville died on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at his residence. A native of Bartow County, born March 11, 1938, he was the son of the late Hubert Cox and Ida Mae Carson Cox.

Dean was one of the most kind hearted and generous people you would ever know. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army. Dean started working at Young Brothers Pharmacy while he was still in high school and eventually became owner/operator and finally retired after 50 years. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music. He loved baseball and the Atlanta Braves was his favorite team. He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Gatlinburg with his family and friends. Dean loved family and always looked forward to the reunions and the large meals that went along with them. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Tatum Cox; his sister, Margie Varner and brother, Robert Cox.

Survivors include his brothers-in-law, Ed Varner, William Tatum (Karen); his sisters-in-law, Brenda Bearden and Nancy Law, (Charles); his nieces and nephews, Louie Varner(Miki) and Nathan Varner (Beth), Leigh Lockwood, (Alan Harris); Brett Davis (Amanda), Brian Bearden (Lisa), Payson Hammonds (Julie) and Calen Casey; along with numerous great-nieces and nephews and all the current and former employees of Young Brothers Pharmacy; and his long standing friend, C.B. Siniard.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2018 at Friendship Baptist Church with The Reverend Stephen Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Calen Casey, Bruce Cole, Louie Varner, Nathan Varner, Brett Davis, Brian Bearden and Payson Hammonds. C. B. Siniard and Johnny Siniard will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the people who cared for Dean during his illness, especially Home Instead Senior Care for the time they devoted.
