Obituary for Janice Betty Abernathy

Mrs. Janice “Betty” Abernathy, age 80, died Friday, October 13, 2017 at her residence following a lengthy illness. A native of Bartow County, born August 29, 1937, she was the daughter of the late George Elrod and Estelle Dutton Elrod.

Betty was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, a child of God, and a lover of gospel music. She enjoyed cooking, cross stitching, doing word searches and spending time with her family and friends. Preceding her in death are her parents; Big Daddy Nick Stewart; 4 brothers; 1 sister; 1 son; 2 grandsons and 1 great-grandchild.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Reverend Elihue Abernathy of White; her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Ann Abernathy of Fairmount, Donnie and Darlene Abernathy of Fairmount, and Shawn and Aimee Abernathy of White; her daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy Hames of Cartersville, Wanda and David Williams of White, Lynn Abernathy of Fairmount and Gayle and Rodney Hazelwood of Cartersville; 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Annie Dee Elrod.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Oak Hill Baptist Church with The Reverend Reggie Temples, Reverend David Temples and Reverend James Surratt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Abernathy will be carried to the church on Monday where she will lie-in-state from
1 – 2 p.m. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 15th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Serving as pallbearers will be Shane Abernathy, Christopher Johnson, Mitchell Johnson, Randall Abernathy, Ricky Abernathy, Rex Abernathy, Tristan Morrow and Shannon Holmes.
