Obituary for Lloyd Buchanan

Lloyd  Buchanan
Mr. Lloyd “Buck” Buchanan, age 82, of Cartersville, died on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. He was a native of Bartow County, born July 8, 1935 the son of the late Alexander Buchanan and Kate Cannon Buchanan.
Lloyd was drafted into the United States Army shortly after high school and married the love of his life, Charlotte Jones Buchanan. Lloyd was well known in Bartow County, working most of his life at Goodyear (40 plus years) and the latter part with Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services where he retired in 2015 due to health reasons. He was a lifelong member of Atco Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and in many other capacities. He loved the Lord and gospel music, and sang for many years with groups such as the Truetones, the Tri-State Quartet, and One Touch. Buck, as he was known to most people, touched many lives during his lifetime and will be missed by many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Erma Buchanan and sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Willie Wilson.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Charlotte; his son, Mark of Cartersville; 2 sisters, Dot Ford and Irene Blair both of Cartersville; a brother and sister-in-law, Freddie and Vivian Buchanan of LaGrange; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Marzelle and Byrd McCollum; Maxie Roberts and Vickie Mulkey of Cartersville; along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Atco Baptist Church with The Reverend Mike Boatfield and The Reverend Doug Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Lloyd will be taken to the church on Saturday to lie-in-state from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. There will be no other visitation.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews, Carter Wilson, Hugh Buchanan, Jr, Jeff, Andy, Steve, Russell and Danny Buchanan and friend, Kenny Lowery. Honorary pallbearers will be Fuz Cornett, Charles Chastain, Hugh Boss, Wayne Martin, Mike Fowler, Matt Fowler, Blake Mulkey, Byrd McCollum and the staff at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home.
The family request in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Atco Baptist Church, 20 Parmenter Street, Cartersville, Georgia 30120 in memory of Lloyd.
